“They had no right!” Honey yelled, tears

welling up in her eyes.

Colton shot River another glance, hoping the

get-help-now message was clear.

River nodded once before he took off for the

door.

“I know how upsetting all this is for you, but I

promise to help you through it.” Colton tried to ease her back into a lying position.

She batted his hands away, the frantic

movement making some of the wires connected to

her body detach. “I don’t fucking need you or my

little shit of a son,” she shrieked, her voice echoing though the room.

Colton winced. Now, he and half the hospital

knew that Honey had herself one heck of a potty

mouth. A flare of anger sparked at the slur against

River, but Colton tamped it down. He knew that

the loss of her animals was sending Honey over

the edge and she didn’t realize what she was

saying. Or at least he hoped that was the case,

because the thought of any mother talking about

her child that way made his stomach lurch.

After a few tense moments, River came back in,

a nurse in tow. She had a syringe in her hand. She

didn’t waste any time. Going over to the IV pump,

she stuck the needle in and pushed the plunger

down. It only took a couple of minutes before

Honey relaxed as her eyelids grew heavy.
